    Default inittab Faxgetty Hylafax

    I have upgraded my Hylafax server to 12.1. Installed Hylafax works fine. But i can't get the faxgetty to work in the /etc/inittab file.
    I have tried : mo:2345:respawn:/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/ttyS0
    mo:35:respawn:/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/ttyS0
    and even: mo:35:respawn:/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty ttyS0
    mo:2345:respawn:/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty ttyS0
    modem will not respawn after after reboot.

    If i run: usr/lib/faxgetty -D ttyS0 Modem works fine until I reboot...

    Any ideas?? Never had this problem in the past..

    Thanks

    Try switching from systemd to sysvinit. IIRC, systemd doesn't use the
    inittab file, so that would explain why it's not working if you're
    configured to use systemd (which is the default in 12.1).

    And if it works in systemv, please report the issue in Bugzilla. I haven't
    tested this, because my fax is installed in 11.4, not 12.1.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
    I don't know how to swich from systemd to sysvinit.( would that eddect anything else i have running on server?)
    After I read your reply I tried fowwing a guide here .
    I created a file /etc/systemd/system/faxgetty-ttyS0.service
    [Unit]
    Description=HylaFAX faxgetty for ttyS0

    [Service]
    User=root
    Group=root
    Restart=always
    RestartSec=30
    ExecStart=/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/ttyS0

    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target

    Then in terminal I issued 'systemctl start faxgetty-ttyS0.service'
    Modem starts respawns great. reboot and still dead.

    When it boots, press F5 and select systemv. The change is only for that boot.

    Still can't get the modem to work automatically after reboot.
    Does anybody know how get faxgetty to work with systemd (suse 12.1)?
    Been looking at a fedora link here.
    Would this work for Suse?

    Thanks for any input

    Ask in the mail list. There are some people that know about systemd that
    read there, some times the maintainer.

    Figured out cheat fix cheat:

    I created a file /etc/systemd/system/faxgetty.service

    [Unit]
    Description=FaxGetty Start Modem ttyS0
    After=getty.target

    [Service]
    Type=simple
    User=root
    Group=root
    Restart=always
    ExecStart=/usr/lib/fax/faxgetty /dev/ttyS0
    TimeoutSec=0

    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target

    Then I setup a cron job at boot it runs systemctl start faxgetty.service

    Works perfect

    A cron job that runs at boot?

    For example:

    Code:

    > -@reboot /bin/logger -t marker -p syslog.warn "Booting the system now ======================= " > /dev/null
    More in the man page.
