Default What kernel to install for virtural machines? OpenSUSE 12.1

I''m attempting to install either the hypervisor or Oracle virtual box for use as a virtual machine. Both indicate that a kernel needs to be installed.

    oracle vm indicates the following

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

    '/ect/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
    --------
executing the script provides the following:
    /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
    Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules done
Uninstalling old VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules done
Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS
Error! Your kernel headers for kernel 3.1.9-1.4-desktop cannot be found at
    /lib/modules/3.1.9-1.4-desktop/build or /lib/modules/3.1.9-1.4-desktop/source.
    failed
    (Failed, trying without DKMS)
    Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules failed
(Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)

    -------
by the way dkms is installed.
    -------

    cat /var/log/vbox-install.log
    Uninstalling modules from DKMS
removing old DKMS module vboxhost version 4.1.10

    ------------------------------
    Deleting module version: 4.1.10
    completely from the DKMS tree.
    ------------------------------
    Done.
    Attempting to install using DKMS

    Creating symlink /var/lib/dkms/vboxhost/4.1.10/source ->
    /usr/src/vboxhost-4.1.10

    DKMS: add Completed.
You can use the --kernelsourcedir option to tell DKMS where it's located.
Failed to install using DKMS, attempting to install without
Makefile:172: *** Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again. Stop.

    -------

As to hypervisor, executing the virtual machine manager indicates:
Error starting Virtual Machine Manager: No module named gconf
    ---------

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi
Whenever your installing an application that needs to build kernel
modules (eg vmware, virtualbox, nvidia etc) you only need to have the
    kernel-source, kernel-syms, linux-kernel-headers, make and gcc
installed. For virtualbox you don't need dkms installed.

Ensure the above are installed and then re-run the setup.

The same repo you used for the kernel you are using.

Linux-kernel-headers was not found in yast software management, hence my inquiry as to the repository.

I think what you are looking for is kernel-desktop-devel,
kernel-default-devel ... (depends on what uname -a tells you).

Please, when you post such things, use code tags.

This would be it if you are using kernel-default.

Parthenolide: Oracle virtual box still does not work.
So VirtualBox works like a champ in openSUSE and while using any kernel version, up to and including kernel 3.3. You should read the following article on the usage and installation of VirtualBox:

    http://forums.opensuse.org/content/5...umbleweed.html

Second, we have a forum just for questions about VirtualBox and other such programs you can find here:

Consider using the Virtualization Forum next time as its the right place to ask such questions. Even the opening thread includes some great information.
