Default Unable to refresh Java and KDE repos from yast2

    Hi,

I've just updated to 12.1 from 11.3 and am configuring my repositories.

I have added the Java and KDE repos using the links here KDE repositories - openSUSE with these zypper commands as root :

zypper ar Index of /repositories/Java:/packages/openSUSE_Factory Java
zypper ar Index of /repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Stable/openSUSE_12.1 KDE-Core
zypper ar Index of /repositories/KDE:/UpdatedApps/openSUSE_12.1 KDE-UpdatedApps
zypper ar Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_12.1 KDE-Extra

When I open the s/w management tool in Yast2 it attempts to refresh these repos but reports this error (details on):

    Download (curl) error for 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/UpdatedApps/openSUSE_12.1/repodata/repomd.xml':
    Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Could not resolve host: download.opensuse.org (Domain name not found)

However if I run this command as a normal user, the repo xml file is downloaded correctly :

    curl http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...ata/repomd.xml

Here is some extra info about my system :

    Mmm. Proxy configuration.

I don't have a proxy configured. And if it were the proxy, would curl still work?

Am beginning to suspect my wireless router.

If I change the repos to use ftp instead of http I get access. Downside is I have to use a mirror whose cert is untrusted

Any ideas why ftp would work but not http?

    Thanks again

Do you have ipV6 enabled? If so, disable it, reboot and try again.

You may have a user configuration different than what yast uses, you have
to configure it separately in /etc/sysconfig/proxy.

It looks to me you are inside a corporate or university network. If you are
at home with a router to your ISP, I would verify its configuration,
    paternal control and such.

    Hi,

I'm updating this thread from work, but the problem is with my home laptop. IPV6 is disabled. Firewall is disabled. No proxy.

After playing about with the JAVA repo via ftp, I found some very strange behaviour. The jre would not be recognised by the system (ie no /usr/bin/java) unless I uninstalled the open-jdk (v1.6) and let the system fall back to 1.5.

I concluded there had been a problem with the update from 11.3 to 12.1 which was affecting Yast s/w management tool.

So I did a clean installation with the root partition reformatted but keeping all my data partitions.

Problem has gone away. All the repos work correctly straight out the box via http.

I have a problem with remote desktop Java client but that is a separate thread.

    Thanks for your support

You could have mentioned that, and then I would have pointed you at
    procedures to correct that issue.
