hm, don't know about this NFS problem, rarely use NFS sicne at the moment
there's only one machine here. but OP posted this as a bug
    (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=751811), which has been
closed now, and there's no mention of NFS.

Yes, that is explained on another post of this thread, and he said "That is
likely a separate or somewhat related issue." In fact, that bugzilla is
    related to your issue.

Sorry gents, I was away from my home network with my laptop (my "problem" machine) so had to wait for access to my NFS mounts.

Quick Answer - My problem is NOT resolved by the fix to pm-utils in version 1.4.1-12.20.1.

    Longer Answer and Observations:
    • I can see now that Phani's problem and mine were in fact different. For me, STR worked as long as I did not have my NFS shares mounted, no so for him.
    • Note that I only have this problem with machines running network manager(to manage wireless). My 12.1 desktops, running ifup, have been able to STR all along.
    • The issues with trashed /var/log/pm-suspend.log files when booting with systemd IS resolved. As I recall, that was not pm-utils but some other problem fixed a while ago. The good news is that now I can see a bit more on what might be happening.

    Here is the log file
    Note the highlighted entries
    Code:

Note the dbus messages about NFS mount failures after the IP addresses are "withdrawn", presummably by Network Manager as it shuts down the interface.
Soon later plasma-desktop and krunner crash, then everything starts up again as the machine immediately exits the sleep state.

So I am off to do a detailed comparison of STR logs for my desktop and compare to this laptop, to see if there are obvious issues.
I'll then open a new bug, as this is clearly now related to network management AND NFS shares.

i don't remember (and am too lazy to search...): did you try this when
booting with sysvinit instead of systemd?

You found a bug, there is a kernel oops in there. Report to bugzilla, then
    wait...

It says "(2 tasks refusing to freeze, wq_busy=0)", but I don't see which tasks.

I reported the issues with NFS and suspend to disk, using traditional
network setup. They were solved, time ago.

Thanks, you fixed my problem before I had it. My desktop (traditional ifup) has not had any problems during this.
Only my laptop (network manager), and only when NFS mounts are active.

I'll log a bug later this evening

Phani - same result with systemd and System V init at boot.

good for you; i use neither network manager nor NFS at present, so this
    doesn't happen to me.

makes logical sense somewhere, that things need to be properly unmounted
before everything 'goes to sleep,' just how to achieve that exactly...good
    luck with that.

No, with traditional network setup you can hibernate the machine while
there is an active mount via nfs.
