opensuse v12.1
linux 3.1.9-1.4-desktop x86_64

I checked for updates; there were a number of them. One, though, sounded disastrous: opensuse-2012-74. It is an update for sysconfig.

What is so unnerving about it is the number of other apps it feels necessary to UNinstall to install the update. There are dozens including Gnome, KDE, dhcp, SuseFirewall. It seems so draconian. The implication is that I would not be left with a functioning OS if all of those were removed.

Is this to be expected? Normal?
