Default ERP software for OpenSuse 11.3

    Dear OpenSuse friends:
I am an OpenSuse 11.3 user, need to install any open source ERP software.
Started with OpenERP 6.0, but it didn't install due to some issues with Python and its associated libraries.
Looks like OpenERP is best fit for Ubuntu and debian OS, but not for other Linux flavour like openSuse.

Could you please recommend an open source ERP software which works best on OpenSuse 11.3 ?4

Thanks in advance for your recommendation.

    Jamil Rahman.

openSUSE 11.3 went past its end of life a few weeks ago...you should
move to a supported version as soon as possible...currently supported
    version are

    11.4 from here: http://software.opensuse.org/114/en
    12.1 from here: http://software.opensuse.org/

could you not work out those issues?
was it a matter of having the correct version?

perhaps the 11.3 python was too old, or too new?

i do not know why you would say that...OpenERP 6.0.3 is available for
1-Click install from http://software.opensuse.org/search for both
openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1 as well as the most recent SUSE Linux Enterprise
    Server 11..

i can't, never used it...and probably never will....

but, suggest you try them all..

Thanks DenverD. I'll upgrade to the latest version 12.1.
A question though, can I upgrade from the DVD ?
I am going to download and prepare an ISO image of version 12.1

    Regards.

the community supported upgrades are from the just previous release,
only...that is, you may upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and from 11.4 to 12.1,
but not from 11.3 to 12.1

even the supported paths to a successful upgrade are not perfect...you
must be prepared for disaster and you must protect your data, music,
movies, documents, mail etc etc etc..BACKUP before the upgrade..

here are two detailed methods available to you:
    http://tinyurl.com/6kvoflv
    http://tinyurl.com/35p966c

i suggest you read both carefully before selecting the method you will
    use and follow it..

and, always before you burn the install disk, md5 or sha1 check that the
downloaded iso is correct (see http://en.opensuse.org/SDBownload_help
if you do not know how to do that) and _then_ burn at the slowest
possible speed on the high quality media...most folks do not recommend
    burning to an RW disk..

and, once burned, BEFORE you begin the upgrade do this:
    http://tinyurl.com/3qde66h
and, _any_ error is too many...you must not install from a defective
disk (unless, or course, you desire a defective, unstable, compromised
    system)

now: i never upgrade because i see far too many "little problems" and
"strange things" following those...personally, i make a real good backup
of all my data and configuration files and then do a format install and
rebuild the system from the ground up....and, then join the data back in...

others here upgrade all the time....some even have no problems with it..

some here say it is ok to upgrade from 11.2 to 12.1 as long as you use
the dvd and use that choice during the upgrade...some even say they do
that all the time and have no problems..

maybe you wish to be fully prepared for a format install, and _try_ the
upgrade....and, if it fails then fall back to format > install > rebuild
    > join

you machine, your time, your choice.. (i find it quicker to
format/rebuild rather than dick around with all the little problems here
    and there..)

by the way: *if* you go to 12.1 and use Kmail, you expect it to ruin
your current mail archive! you can expect it will have some trouble with
the systemv to systemd transition, and and and..

i'm still using 11.4, and plan to for a while longer...12.1 is just not
ready for me....i like stable, predictable, reliable..

    Hi DenverD:
Really appreciate for your detail information and tips on upgrade installation.
Fortunately, I could successfully upgrade (not a clean install from scratch) from 11.3 to 12.1 using DVD.
Since last few hours, I have been verifying as much applications as possible an so far there is no problem surfaced.

However, according to your suggestion (...1-Click install from software.opensuse.org: Search Results for both
    openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1..
), I tried to install OpenERP_Server, but no luck yet.

I have downloaded the .ymp package and tried to install, but get the following YAST conflict:

    #### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2012-02-05 21:48:31 ####
nothing provides graphviz-python needed by openerp-server-6.0.3-30.2.noarch
[ ] break openerp-server by ignoring some of its dependencies
    [ ] do not install openerp-server-6.0.3-30.2.noarch
    #### YaST2 conflicts list END ###

This problem is caused due to some of the PYTHON packages are missing.
I assumed, 12.1 provided the latest PYTHON and I could smoothly install OpenERP as you suggested.

Give some thought where I could find the missing package of PYTHON ?

    Thanks.

well.. default installing "PYTHON" and default installing _everything_
possible that is "PYTHON" related are two very different things!

    > Give some thought where I could find the missing package of PYTHON ?

i'm running openSUSE 11.4 and a quick trip to YaST Software Management
turns up graphviz-python as available for easy install from oss..

so, since YaST can't seem to find that on your system i must conclude
that your enabled repo list is somehow munged, so please show us the
    terminal input/output from
    Code:
    zypper lr -d
    via copy/paste
back to this thread using the instructions here: http://goo.gl/i3wnr

Search software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 12.1 for the missing deps. You may have to add an extra repo for python additions.

The package is in the oss repository which should be there by default.

    @jrahman:
    Please provide the output from
    Code:
    zypper lr -d
    in code tags.

    I would do the following:
Disable the cd/dvd repo (#2) and then do a "zypper refresh" as root in a
terminal. Then search in yast for graphviz-python and install it, try
    your 1-click again.
