Default Windwos Host: Virtualbox and 12.1 guest

    All,
I installed 12.1, but after I installed it is acting strange. I got an Oh No! something must of happened error.

I tried to install the guest additions in single user mode and reboot, but it came back saying gnome 3 can't load.

Is there a trick to getting 12.1 installed?

You must have auto login disabled, then at the login screen choose

Your login screen may look a little different. In gnome you have to click the username first
If you have auto login on it - Might be quicker to just run the install again and
    disable auto login http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10573557/12....word_login.jpg

IceWM is a different environment to Gnome and doesn't have the graphics requirements

are you trying to install a 64 bit 12.1?

if so, is your VBox 64 bit capable (not all are, like the free one is
    not, i think)

    Denver,
I am trying to install 12.1 64 bit yes. The Vbox I am using is Oracle 4.1.

It installs, but when it tries to load it gives the Oh no screen. I have been googling around, but haven't found any solid answers. I installed nvidia drivers just to see what it would do and it now drops me to the icewm screen :/

Also, if I disable the 3d acceleration it drops me to the iceWM.

Not quitre sure what is going on :/

I remeber having this problem in one of the test versions of 12.1, a permission problem with gdm. Are you sure you have the final release?

You don't install video drivers in Virtual Box, you need the Extension Pack

Why? It just needs more memory in general. Install the 32 bit system!

Increase RAM of the vm to 1GB and video memory to 128 MB.

I'm surprised that it drops you somewhere. The virtual machine doesn't have a virtual nvidia gfx card.

ok! but i didn't ask you what version number you are using, but rather
does it support 64 bit operating systems in the VM? (as said, not all
VBox offerings support both 32 and 64 bit systems)
