I'm a non-G user except for a netbook with UNR, which fortunately is G2, so I've given up on G even before starting.

As for openSUSE, I'm equally successful with it as any of the other distros I use. That includes some lower end desktops like Openbox.

So I guess it's G that I'm giving up on.

I suppose G had to go one better than the K3 to K4 pangs.

Indeed! But in my point of view, usability is lower.

It doesn't matter. If they do, people will keep buying the old one, and
wait for the next, as happened already with other versions. People vote
with the purse. They have a very clear statistic of usage (we don't) and a
compelling reason to correct errors. They will not insist on the wrong
road; there it is not devs making decisions.

So any extension will work on oS?

I went to https://extensions.gnome.org/. The first thing I see is an error
because I'm using 11.4. I see for example an extension:

    Applications Menu
    by gcampax

Add a gnome 2.x style menu for applications

I click on it, but the description is as thin! I have no idea if it will
work in oS and pick the correct menus.

I would like a list of what is needed, for oS.

    Hi
Extension from there only work with GNOME > 3.2 unless you upgrade your
11.4 they won't work. For 11.4 you would need GNOME:STABLE:3.2.

No, I have a test partition with 12.1 in the laptop.

    Hi
Ahh ok, if it shows you the link and you can get to it, then it will
work. They have checks on the website with the installed
gnome-shell-browser-plugin to ensure it will install.

Not enough *for you*. That's an important distinction.

You'll have to take that up with the developers.

They should, as that's how the extensions are being distributed now.

Then you should start a thread and ask some questions about the specific
issues you're having rather than burying the question in someone else's
    thread about reverting.

I'm sure there is information on the 'net about that. I use G3 generally
as written and like it, so I haven't explored it. Seems like a good
topic for another thread so someone who knows can find it rather than
expecting it to be found buried deep in someone else's thread.

Generally, people resist change - so it's not a question of extensions
bringing G2 like functionality that's the giveaway. Just look at KDE4
and how it was resisted. Some still do, but most now use KDE4.

The same will happen with GNOME 3.
