Can somebody tell me how i can install an “windows-like” task bar open suse 12.1 with gnome3.
the missing taskbar it’s very frustating,and time eating when you work with different applications. I really hope you guys will add it back
PS: By the way, seems like i can’t right click on the desktop, or add icons out there?
Use the gnome tweak tool to use the traditional desktop with icons
You need to install the shell extensions too
Is there a windows like task bar?
You can change gnome 3 to the old style by clicking your name in the upper right corner, click system settings, and look for system info, click system info, select graphics, and click “ON” for Force Fallback Mode. The button may not look like it says on but click the button next to OFF. I have not tried it yet but I think that’s how it works. You may need to log out or restart for the changes to take affect.
Yeah, i would like to install something like tint2 for opensuse…

KDE was and is FAR more windows-like than GNOME ever has been…maybe
you should look at changing to it??
especially since GNOME 3 has taken such a radical departure from the
“traditional” desktop, it might be easier on you to opt for the more
traditional rather than beat the new 3 until it looks/acts more like
what you expect/want…

Those guys are not reading here. You might try the gnome mail list at
opensuse. There was also a recent “rant” in the project mail list.
Apparently, the new way is to select activities, and the panel on the left
should have icons for the opened applications. But if, for example, you
opened two xterms, there is no way to select one of them. And the top bar
only displays one xterm and offers to quit it if you click.
Cumbersome.

The Packman repo has ‘tint2’; there’s also ‘lxpanel’ in the standard repo.
