In Yast2 - Network Settings, do you have User Controlled with NetworkManager selected?

Do you have the packet plasmoid-networkmanagement installed?

Can you see the Network Management Settings icon in the system tray?

    yes to all three questions.

is there and option to connect to ethernet first then if not connected to to wireless option or vice versa?

Left mouse click on the Network Management Settings icon.
    then select, Network Connections
    then select Wired
then select your Connection, should be eth0 or something like,
    then select Edit

is the 'Connect automatically' button ticked?

is the 'Connect automatically' button also ticked under the Wireless or Mobile Broadband tabs?
