Default Can't start Apache Web server

    hello every,
i'm having a problem starting the apache2 http daemon:
i can only start the server when i'm connected to a network
when i try to start the service when offline i get the following message :

    Code:
    # rcapache2 start -verbose
    Starting httpd2 (prefork) Server version: Apache/2.2.21 (Linux/SUSE)
    Server built: 2011-11-28 13:31:56.000000000 +0000
                                                                         failed
     apachectl start
note the error log file shows nothing(i'm using loglevel debug) also this bug is new in OpenSUSE 12.1

but i have managed to start the server using the server's native script apache2ctl or htttpd2

I doubt it is the same problem if you followed and applied the solution they posted - meaning installing the sysvinit-init package.

Did you check on what interface your apache is set to start and if that is set to "any" since you say it does not start when offline. When offline it supose to start and listen on "localhost" - 127.0.0.1 and that your network is set to be configured with ifup method not with NetworkManager.

At the same time the rc-script might be set to require the network to be set-up before apache startup.

I do not understand why the script tries and uses apachectl instead of apache2ctl.

    Cheers.

    You mean runleve?
it set to 3 and 5
3 Full multiuser mode with network
5 Full multiuser mode with network and X display manager—KDM, GDM, or XDM

rc-script might be set to require the network to be set-up before apache startup.
i've been using Apache for a while in OpenSUSE 11.4 and works just fine this is new in 12.1 i can only blame switching from sysvinit to systemd.

installing sysvinit-init works just fine ... by the way i had hard time starting mysql daemon too.

No. Any as for any network interface.

It doesn't look as if you are using systemd.
