Thread: amarok 2.4.3 not working after update

  1. #1

Default amarok 2.4.3 not working after update

after the whole update procedures to 12.1 and kde 4.7.4 amarok reports an error and after a while crashes with a segfault.

the message shown in a dialog box:

The amarok database reported the following errors:
GREPME MySQLe query failed! (2000) on init
In most cases you will need to resolve these errors before Amarok will run properly.

    any ideas anyone? buehler?

Ditch Amarok and install Clementine, it's a fork of Amarok 1.4, Works.
    Available in OSS.

i already thought about that, but there are still some things i need amarok for...

i also thought about quitting kde altogether, because it is so memory-consuming and with each version it becomes slower and slower, and more and more things don't work any longer (amarok, kmail, pim, ...).

but surprisingly on my archlinux installation everything works quite ok and a lot faster than on opensuse... so instead of leaving kde i think i stay with kde and switch to archlinux...

    Try deleting the following

    .kde4/share/config/amarok-appletsrc
    .kde4/share/config/amarok_homerc
    .kde4/share/config/amarokrc
    .kde4/share/apps/amarok/

    Now try it again

so, basically, what you are saying is, i should say goodbye to everything in that database and start from scratch?

    like i did with kmail?

    like i did with korganizer?

    like i did with plasma?

    ...?

    Yes

What's the big deal. It's only Amarok.

If it's such an issue, put the files in the trash rather than delete.
You can always recover them, if this doesn't solve the problem.

    To be using kde4.7.4
I take it you are using Release47 repo?

i don't care about my music collection, but i have a podcast archive that reaches some years back... the audio files are still there, but all the info is gone...

and adding all the podcasts again takes quite some time... and i already spent way too much time to restore all my kde settings...

yes, i use the upstream repository. 4.7.4 should be stable, afaik...

    i found a solution:

downgrading mysql from version 5.5.18-73.1 (tumbleweed) to 5.5.16-3.3.1 (oss) seems to work.

that isn't my experience with amarok. i'm using KDE 4.8.3, and amarok
still runs exceptionally well, without consuming too much resources; if
one likes the fancy interface with all the schnick-schnack is a different
    question.

if you want to enjoy trouble-free KDE applications, it might be advisable
to upgrade to the latest release (4.8.3), which was a bug-fix release.
