Thread: Where's my task-bar?

    Default Where's my task-bar?

My task-bar (kicker?) has hidden itself. This has been an occasional
problem for many years but I thought I'd got round it by not selecting
the automatic hide option as it sometimes wouldn't unhide itself.

With 12.1, it has disappeared several times. I recall there being a
keystroke combination that would restore it (which I found by
accident) but I've forgotten it. As this seems a slightly different
problem, it might not work but can someone remind me?

It's that bar that, by default, is along the bottom of the screen. I
always shift it to the side as there's more space on a 16:9 screen. I
wouldn't call it "the" panel as there could be several of them. I
prefer "task-bar" as I think that describes it fairly well. Wasn't it
called that in Windows? Long time since I used that and my memory's a
    bit rusty.

Since I said in my original post that I used to use auto-hide, I think
that you should see that your suggestion is a little superfluous.

    Anyone else?

If you can't give a sensible answer, why bother?

Do you mean like I have circled here?

Where it just has what you have open? If so the way I got that was like this:
    1.Unlocked Widgets for the Desktop
    2.Selected Add Widgets
3.Selected Task Manager from the Widgets
4.Sized it up like I got in the pic
Since you say you like it on the side one could put it to the side. It would seem to me that with a 16:9 screen you're not likely to have the whole screen as Firefox, like I do with a 4:3.
One more thing it won't have Kickoff but it is the Task Manager & it'll have what TM has.

Sorry, no, it's the bar along the bottom of the screen. Thanks anyway.

At least I've learned one thing today. I'm back on 11.4 and it's
vanished again. Suggests to me that there's a problem with my settings.
Only started with a new .kde4 about a week ago so I'm not best pleased
about having to repeat the procedure, especially as I might have got
kedepim2 working. Then again, I got it working yesterday and it fell
apart before the day was out. Hey-ho, it'll give me something to do
    tomorrow.

For those who are having trouble with the term "taskbar," here's an
    article in Wikipedia:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taskbar#KDE
My experiences here some years ago suggested that some Linux users have
a phobia about the term because it reminds them of Windoze. ;-)

This answered what just happened to me. Apparently I removed the Task Manager widget (and I'm not sure how, thought I was closing something else) and was about to go snooping through config files looking for "magic incantations". So thank you for this post!
