Thread: How remove Openoffice without installing LibreOffice

Default How remove Openoffice without installing LibreOffice

I've been having issues with LibreOffice, so I tried to install OpenOffice, and Yast uninstalled LibreOffice before installing OpenOffice. I then tried to re-install LibreOffice, and OO.o was removed. Is there a way to remove both, and is there a way to have both installed?

    Any and all help appreciated.

Considering how close both are to the recent fork, I'd say this is a good
thing - they share a bunch of plugins and libraries so the risk of small
dependency conflicts is too high for my liking. The few minutes it takes to
erase/replace the other version is small compared to the the time you can
    spend chasing conflicts!

You should install one of them at least from the respective project website. Libreoffice has instructions on its wiki. Do not install the desktop integration. You may use yast for the installation of the rpm. I use Libreoffice 3.3 and 3.4 in parallel without any conflicts. Previously I used OpenOffice and Libreoffice in paralell without any conflicts and even before that I used the Novell edition of OpenOffice.org, provided by the OpenSuse repositories, in parallel to the plain vanilla version...again without problems.
As for uninstalling both, I really have difficulties understanding the question? Why should that not be possible?

When I try uninstall one, Yast installs the other. I wanted to make sure both were gone and then try to install OpenOffice to see if the issue I was having with LibreOfice occureed with OO. It doesn't. However, I'd prefer to use LibreOffice. So now I'm looking into installing the vanilla LibreOffice, and if the issue reoccurs, trying an older version.

I will look around the LibreOffice site for install instructions.

    Thanks for the reply :-)

I think you have to install one from Novell via YaST, and the other from
the original site. The two from YaST it is not possible, they conflict with
    one another on purpose.

I installed LibreOffice 3.4 from their website. My problem remained. I uninstalled that and installed the 3.3 version in Yast, which uninstalled OpenOffice. Problem gone. So I'll be using 3.3 until another upgrade comes around.

My problem was that when I downloaded an RTF from Standards, Benchmarks, & FrameworksCareer and Technical Education Curriculum Frameworks, the page background would be black, print white and formatting wrong. It worked fine with the OO.o version in Yast, but not LibreOffice 3.4. I probably should file a bug report.

    Thanks for the help.

You probably have the office pattern active.

    You can taboo it.

I can verify that LibreOffice renders the .rtf from the page you provided strangely. KWord renders them ok, if that is of any use to you (Did not notice if you use KDE or Gnome). You can use KWord to save them in odt and open them in Libre. They render correctly then.

BTW when I intsalled the Libreoffice version from the project website with zypper install *.rpm (if I recall correctly the command) it did not remove the other Libreoffice version (as I said: Do not install the desktop integration if you want to keep both versions).

    good luck.

Thanks for looking at the rtf for me. I have installed LibreOffice 3.3 for now and that is working OK. I am using KDE 4.4.4 , so KWord may work as an intermediary if he next LibreOffice upgrade has the same problem.

    Again, Thanks for the help.
