Non-functioning updates in KPackageKit

This KPackageKit issue is driving me up the wall. When I do a command-line software update, I see this…

Why am I seeing non-functioning updates in KPackageKit that aren’t visible in zypper?

I think it’s fair to say there’s a general consensus here that KPackagekit shouldn’t be used. Zypper or Yast all the way, for now at least.

because kpackagekit in 11.4 is broken…and has been broken for a long
long time…

you should choose from one of these three:

  1. ignore it
  2. disable it
  3. uninstall it < this is what i chose

and, use either YaST Online Update, or zipper up only.

But it ships with openSUSE 11.4 by default? Hopefully this will have changed in the upcoming version.

Read here how they are still trying to replace a perfectly working piece of software with something new where you and I did not ask for:
kpackagekit’s sister

Yes, it comes by default, and I doubt it will be dropped in 12.1. It’s a KDE thing, not sure if openSUSE could simply leave it out. Wish they would…
