Thread: Themes

    Default Themes

    Hello everyone,

First time posting in the openSUSE forums and let's just say I'm happy to be here. I think I've found my new favourite distro.

Anyways, I would probably be more inclined to continue using Linux and openSUSE for that matter if someone could give me a quick 101 on how to use themes, window decorators, etc.. I know very well about compizfusion and I know there are alternate window decorators like Emerald.

Does anyone of those theme engines work very well with openSUSE? How do I use themes from gnome-look.org for example?

Thanks! I appreciate the help in advance.

Why not try KDE? No need for Compiz/Emerald, just let Kwin handle all that, and download additional themes and configure everything through Personal Settings/Configure Desktop, or through kde-look.org.
This is meant as a suggestion to try something you may not have tried yet, not to provoke another Gnome v KDE polemic...

It's worth considering. Does compiz work well with KDE as well?

How does one actually apply the themes from kde-look or gnome-look?

I think Compiz works with KDE but there's no need because Kwin is built into KDE and provides pretty much all the compositing effects that Compiz does, including the rotating cube.
Most kde-look themes can be downloaded and installed from KDE Personal Settings. Gnome themes probably won't work, for obvious reasons.

    Hi
For GNOME 2 via the Control Center -> Apperance for Gnome Shell you
need to install the gnome-shell-extension-user-themes and add via the
gnome-tweak-too. Just be careful to check whether the selected theme
will work in your shell version.
