    Please, what is openSUSE 11+ ? openSUSE-11.3 ? 11.4 ? or is this SLED 11 ?

What version of Skype ? ie what is the output of:
    Code:
    rpm -q '*skype*'
    Did Skype ever run ?

Further to what riderplus noted, if it still fails to launch when opening a terminal/bash shell and typing:
    Code:
    skype
what error do you get ?

Some users who had Skype working and then find it stops working, find if they remove the file /home/username/.Skype/shared.xml they have better luck in starting Skype.

Do you have a 64-bit system? In this case you proabably need some additional
    32-bit libraries.

in addition to the other requests for information, i have one:

    How did you install Skype?

and, if your answer is not "followed http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Skype"
    then you need to..

You can also try installation from a one-click installer http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/hom....4&query=skype and see if you get any joy.

That did it. I guess I needed 32 bit drivers. I'm still new to Linux and I'm finding it is not as simple as saying I installed it and it doesn't work.

as you know there is no money needed to buy your way into Linux....but,
there is a cost (in time, effort and frustration) to climb the "steep
learning curve"....but, look at all of that as an investment in _you_
    and enjoy the climb...

soon (eventually?), you will find less frustration and more FUN!!

and, the climb is WELL worth the effort...keep asking, keep learning..
