    Default Thunderbird printing mystery

I use thunderbird on Linux and Windows, and i noticed that if i print
    over windows everthing is correct.
Under Linux thunderbird creates spaces between words and i don't know
    why. It looks really bad.
I don't know if thunderbird has its own printing engine or if it uses
    the systems engine to print.
Does anyone else have the same problem or just me?

    My stats
    Windows 7, openSUSE 11.4 x64 KDE 4.6 using a brother HL-2244D printer
    via cups.

I haven't tried lately printing from thunderbird, I usually paste into a
text editor to have more control.

In Linux any program has to convert the output to postscript, and this is
sent to cups. Then cups converts to printer language if necessary. In
Windows it uses a GDI with a printer context instead of display context,
and redraws. Then Windows has to convert that to printer language via drivers.

You could try printing from Th. to a file. I tried just that and the ps
    file is perfect.

Well without testing i can say that documents that i print via Libre
    will come out fine.
The thing is, i am not able to tell how and why since i don't know the
steps. Thanks for telling, now i know something more.

So it may be Thunderbird itself that perhaps converts it wrong. I
thought originally that the fonts could be the problem. But after trying
out different fonts, it appears to be not the problem.

I rather like to print directly from Thunderbird without going to
copying the text into another application. Haven't checked if there is a
bug pending on mozilla, but i posted the same question also on Mozilla.

Maybe people don't print that much these days, but i really do and like.

I told you to print to file from thunderbird and check the file.
    I'm waiting...

    Hi,

you could install the vitual PDf printer and print to that.

I've often found that "misbehaving" progs print well to PDf - and then you just print out the pdf...

Thunderbird can print directly to PDF. But in case you are looking for
problems, is best to print to postscript file and avoid intermediaries.

Well, i filed a bug report (could not find anything similar).

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694788

I haven't tried that way to print but will give it a shot.

What you mean test? I tried several font, changed the config, i even
counted the number of words between the spaces..

If i can't print it drives me just mad. I love mozilla, but this is
really sad. I think this has nothing to do with openSUSE and is just
really a mozilla problem. All other apps print correctly.
