11.4 Gnome 3.2 64 Bit Lock Screen Issue

I did a fresh install with all patches of 11.4 with Gnome 3.2 and when ever I click lock screen or do a CTRL+ALT+L the desktop freezes. My cursor continues to function but nothing else. I can switch to a virtual terminal and do an init 3 and init 5 again to log in but it becomes a real pain.
It’s an issue because I really don’t like leaving my laptop unlocked when at a customer.
I can’t really seem to find any information in /var/log/messages,warn or Xorg… where can I start to find out what is going on?

Anyone else having any issues like this?

Thanks!

Hi
I disabled gnome-screensaver… so you installed from the live cd?

You can also try the commands here;

It gets to fading out for me, then locks so there is a bug somewhere…

I did install off the Live DVD yes.
So you just run unlocked constantly?

Hi
Yup at the moment, the netbook doesn’t travel to anywhere i need to
lock. Still investigating, the fade out doesn’t complete hence the
freeze…

Mine doesn’t even start to fade. As soon as the screensaver even thinks about being enabled it stops responding… frustrating… :frowning:

I found this… just looks like the dbus-1-glib is too out of date with openSuSE 11.4.

Hi
Just did a test build of dbus-1-glib version 0.98 and still no luck, so
there is still something there…

Dang. I’m thinking I might switch to Arch for the time being. I have no issues with my Gnome 3.2 install on that… May have to wait for openSUSE 12 to come out.

Hi
12.1 beta is there now and work is being done on GS 3.2 stable for 11.4
just a busy time for everyone…

Is there any update on this? I just installed 3.2 and I’m having the same issue. It feels like 3.0 was more stable. Thanks!

Hi
3.2.0 on openSUSE 11.4?

I have no issues now on this desktop which I updated yesterday with the
screensaver.

[QUOTE=malcolmlewis;2394947]Hi
3.2.0 on openSUSE 11.4?

I have no issues now on this desktop which I updated yesterday with the
screensaver.

Yes I’m using 3.2.0 on openSUSE 11.4, which I upgraded from 3.0 yesterday.
This is a desktop with nvidia graphics.

Now since you don’t have this problem, I’m afraid I might not have installed all the required packages for 3.2.
I updated with “switch installed packages to the versions in this repository” in software management after adding gnome 3.2 stable repo, and then I had problems with login because caribou was not automatically installed.

Is there any way to make sure I install everything needed for gnome 3.2?

Thanks!!

Hi
Open YaST software management and then select the repository view and
select the 3.2 repository and browse the list.

I updated gnome-settings-daemon yesterday in the 3.2 repository as
it wasn’t showing the power icon in the panel.

Also check your ~/.xsession-errors file for any other clues.

I had made sure that everything is installed from the Gnome 3.2 repo and then deleted 3.0 repo. My only concern was I might have not installed something I was supposed to.

I ran gnome-screensaver in terminal with --debug and captured the output:

The gnome-screensaver version is 3.2.0-1.2.

Thanks!

downgrade to gnome-screensaver-3.0.0-2.1 from the 3.0 Stable repo solved the problem for me

Hi
Yup, that seems to be the fix for the moment.

It indeed worked. I just locked the gnome-screensaver until new update comes out. Thanks!
