Thread: Updating Firefox?

  1. #1

    Default Updating Firefox?

    Hello:

I have 2 firefox repositories enabled:

    opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla:/Factory/openSUSE_11.3/
    and
    opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.3/

I recently updated FF 6. to FF 7.0-233.1 using the software distribution app in Yast, however the Updater Applet continues to offer me to update to v3.6.23

"Mozilla Firefox was updated to version 3.6.23, fixing various bugs and security issues."

It seems to me that I should not be getting this request to update v3.6.23. Is one of the above enabled repositories causing this message?

I don't know why I have 2 mozilla repositories enabled. Which one is the appropriate one to be enabled?

Is the old version 3 still on my system and causing this message and if so how can I remove this version if it is there - a search for Mozilla in Yast Software Management does not show a version 3.6 installed.

Should I install this patch - I assume it is n/a to FF v7.

    Thanks, jon

Factory is "pre-release" - so unless you want to be testing pre-release
versions of software, you'll probably want to disable factory.

    Jim:

Thanks, I removed the 'factory' repository.

    CAF:

I selected to switch the system packages to the versions in the repository.
Several files were downloaded and updated.
I restarted and the updater applet still shows that I need to update to FF v3.6.23.

My zypp history log shows I installed FF v.3.6 manually. Could this be the reason for my problem? That said, I cannot find a firefox on my system other than the latest version - dated 24 Sep.

    Thanks, Jon

OK. So it's not showing FF3

Now please open a terminal and post result of

    Code:
    su -
    zypper lu
    and

    Code:
    zypper lp
Please confirm if you are using kde or gnome, as kde's applet should not be used and I don't use the one in gnome either.

    SUSE:~ #

The needed patches above is the same as shown in the Update Applet *except* the applet reports it is an update to FF v3.6.23

I am using 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 3". The applet is called the "online update applet" which is found in the menu path Applications->System -> Desktop Applet -> Online Update Applet

    Ignore the update
Don't use the updater. Configure it not to start a boot (right click)

    Do this instead

When you say "once a week" I presume that I must start the Software Manager, choose all in the list and update if newer? IE: there is no autopilot with this method.

    Thanks, jon
