Device notifier fails with USB stick

OpenSuse 11.4 32bit KDE 4.6.0

When I plug in my 8 GB SanDisk Cruzer USB stick into my desktop box, the KDE Device Notifier fails to recognize it. It will recognize every other USB stick. “fsck” reports no errors. I can mount it manually. I can read and write to it. The Device Notifier on my netbook recognizes it. So does another desktop box. Any ideas? By the way this started recently so I suspect some software update.

Thanks.

how many different places are there to plug in a device on that desktop?
try them all (one at a time)…

the troublesome stick may work ok on all the other receptacles (some
desktops have UBS attachment points the back…)

if you have one bad attachment point for that stick, you might find
that everything else will work ok in that plug in spot…

OR, maybe not.

It’s that Sandisk U3 garbage again. Re-installed after I stuck it into a WinDoze box. Running “u3-tool -R /dev/sdX” solved the problem. I will never buy a Sandisk product again.

I will make sure I steer clear of them
