Find Chrome in your applications menu - the easiest way is to start typing 'Chr ...' in Search; right click on it and select Add to panel. To remove the Firefox icon, right click on the screen to open widgets, click on the cashew at the right hand of the panel. Now you can delete the Firefox icon and select the Chrome icon in order to move it to where you want. When you have finished just close the panel (and lock widgets).

if you click on the gecko in the lower left corner to launch the main
menu, and then find and open the file manager, what is its name?

if Dolphin, you are running KDE....if Nautilus you are in Gnome...if
neither of those you might be in XFCE or LXDE or any of several others..

if you are in KDE there will be a cashew looking thing in the upper
    right corner..
