Hi, i am thinking maybe to get the fluendo codec pack and i have seen
that they also sell a player.
I was wondering if anybody has this player and what the impression is.
Does it have any advantages over other players?
Well, just curious.

So I wonder what media types this would support you can't already get for openSUSE? Don't get me wrong, it is OK to support and pay for added features for Linux, just like anything else, but I just wonder how much better you would be? I use the Kaffeine DVD player and it works with all DVD's I have purchased and in Dolby Digital none the less. A whole lot depends on your configuration and sound device. Perhaps the fluendo package would simplify this, but I am not so sure. If you do decide to buy it, you must come back and tell us what it did for you in Linux.

I actually was hoping someone else did it already and can tell something.
Na, don't get me wrong. Most of the things run just fine, but if it gets
'easier' it may not be that bad.

So we know that due to the fact that including restricted formats is not feasible for a "free" operating system like openSUSE as there is no money to pay usage fees as exist for MP3's and DVD's, the fluendo pack might be one was to stay "legal" if one insists. Still, I have not been inclined to do anything as I have purchased copies of Windows 7 for the very same machine and only use one OS at a time. Anyone reading this that does not understand the issues might want to start here:

Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

Basically you need to add in the Packman repository (YaST / Software / Software Repositories) for your version of openSUSE which you can find here:

Additional package repositories - openSUSE

To update everything, I normally suggest you start YaST / Software / Software Management (You must enter your password to start YaST).

Then, in Software Management I do a:

1. Options / Allow Vendor Change (Place an X there)
2. Package / All Packages / Update if Newer Version Available (Agree if there are several Packages to update)
3. You will then be presented with your choices to remove the conflict. I most likely would remove the file dbus-1-devel.i586 or change its vendor, but I don't know what else this might cause or why your have this problem.

I normally make the following suggestions to all that have such problems:

To avoid package problems, the most important thing to do is to: **NEVER** ignore a dependency, even if YaST/zypper/updater gives you such an option! In general, never switch to an >inferior< architecture and the solution is most often to just switch Vendor to the >Packman< repository. So changing the vendor is OK, but >ignoring< dependencies is never a very good idea!

You can test your multimedia setup to see if it is correct by using the bash script mmcheck you can find here:

Anyone that uses an nVIDIA GPU, might do better by loading the proprietary video driver you can find here:

I will check the mmcheck. In the mean time i solved my problem in that i
installed windows (long hard road to happiness) and used the cnet
converter (which doesn't install with wine).
Now i converted everything and put it on a cd and transfer it now to my
harddrive with linux.
I changed a couple of time the vendor, but it did not solve the issue.
Right now i puzzled since i was not able to see the error.
Anything else did work, but just no wma. Strange.
I will check back once i tried mmcheck.
