What do you mean when you say the uninstall option does not work - what
specifically happens, and how exactly are you trying to run the
    uninstaller?

Right click on vmplayer icon - select uninstall - the icon closes but nothing else happens.

"How did you install it " There is a bundle that is downloaded and run in a terminal session.

That probably isn't running as root.

Try opening a terminal shell, and then type:

    su -

    And then run

    vmware-uninstall

(start typing 'vmware-" and then hit the tab key - the program name might
be different since you're using player and I'm using workstation)

Thanks for your help. I got messages instructing me to use 'vmware-installer -u vmware-player' which I did, and it worked. VMPlayer is gone.

I was hoping that VMPlayer was a slam dunk to install as with Ubuntu... but am willing to take Virtualbox instead. That install went well...

FWIW, I use VMware Workstation here, and it was pretty straightforward to
install - but one does need to have the kernel development stuff
installed as there are some kernel modules that have to be built (VMware
player would have the same issues).

But lots of people use Virtualbox as well and it works well for them.
Myself, I need the USB 2.0 support which IIRC is only available in the
    paid version of Virtualbox.
