It's all Linux - so what specifically are you trying to do?

Thread has been moved and re-opened.

openSUSE uses zypper not apt, have a look here: SDB:Zypper usage 11.3 - openSUSE

If you know nothing about Linux, you're not going to learn more by starting with 2 distros. I'll suggest you stick with one or the other and learn the basics (I'm not talking about apt-get and zypper) in order to be able to formulate questions clearly and understand the answers rather than asking "random questions" in the wrong forum.

To your question, you'll find a comparison between package management here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman_Rosetta.

But better start with one distro! It takes more time to assimilate the (common) basics than to learn the differences between distros.

You're not asking really for the terminal to be like the Ubuntu terminal,
then, you're asking for openSUSE to become Ubuntu.

apt-get is a Debian package manager, not used in RPM-based
distributions. So for that, you'll have to learn zypper or use the
    openSUSE tools.

gedit should be essentially the same on both distros. It's possible that
the packages were built with different options.

Asking to make openSUSE behave like Ubuntu is kinda like asking for Linux
to be like Windows.....If you want a Ubuntu-like interface, then you
should use Ubuntu, just like if someone wants a Windows-like interface,
    they should use Windows.

    very cool link! (thanks!)..

i'm no zypper whiz [not even close] but it seems to me that there is a
surprisingly high number of n/a, IN PROGRESS or blanks in the openSUSE
column...prompting me to ask: is the openSUSE column up-too-date? (are
there really that many things done by pacman/apt/yum/etc which are not
available in zypper? or, maybe they don't need to be??)

at least zypper in --download-only is missing in the list ... and maybe a couple others.
