Libre Office problems

Having some problems with Libre Office and not sure if it is just me.

I use mostly the writer.
A couple of the (major) problems I am having is

1.Selecting “save as” for the first time in a document - it takes approximately two to three minutes for the file manager to come up. Libre Office is frozen and unusable until it brings up the file manager.
2. Regularly crashes. I have lost a lot of work in Libre Office despite regularly saving my documents.
When I restart it offers to restore the document I was working on when it crashed. On every occassion it has given me the message that the restore was unsuccessful.

Anybody else seeing these probs?
Any ideas on a fix?

Using LibreOffice 3.3.1 64bit from the Opensuse repo on Opensuse 11.4 64bit

i’m using the same libreOffice version, also on oS 11.4/64 and don’t see
the problems you mention. which version of java are you using, if any?
(you can check this under tools->options. i haven’t used the free java
version (what’s the name again…) in ages; always install sun java,
because i used to have similar problems with the free version, using
openOffice at the time.

phani.

Nothing like that here on an identical setup (LO and oS versions, 64bit). Did these issues start right after installation and if not, what was the last change you made to your system before these problems appeared?

Hi,

For this try : goto tools->options->general. Change the tickbox “Use libreoffice dialogs”.

See whether that makes a difference.

Are you using KDE, and if so have you installed the 11.4 updates? They include libreoffice-libs-gui-3.3.1.2-1.4.1 which:
“LibreOffice: It is unable to write under KDE4 and the grammar checker is not working correctly. Fixed by this update.”

An alternative would be to update LibreOffice. 3.3.3.1 is in Index of /repositories/LibreOffice:/Stable/openSUSE_11.4

Yes, using this setting the “save as” option brings up the libreoffice dialogue immediately.
So there is obviously some kind of issue with Libreoffice interacting with dolphin.

Yes, Using KDE with all the latest updates.

Yes, appeared right from first install.
Have since done a complete reinstall of Opensuse using a separate medium to the first install and exactly the same behaviour.

OK - so it seems there is a known bug with LibreOffice freezing when using the save as dialogue

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32797

It has been fixed in the upcoming LibreOffice 3.4

Guess I will need to wait for that.
