Default Left over Icons in applications menu after uninstall

I uninstalled Google Earth and the "grey" icon remains no matter what I do. Also I had wine to run an MS application I uninstalled wine, before uninstalling the application. The icons remain, do I need to re-install wine again, uninstall the application then uninstall wine? The file that held the application I deleted, first because I had a brain fade.

I'm afraid there isn't enough information in your post.
So could you tell us which version of openSUSE you use?
If you use KDE or GNOME?

First of all make sure you've logged-out and logged-in again, because sometimes the menu doesn't get refreshed.

If the icons are still there I recommend you just remove them by hand.
I'm not sure about the applications installed under wine, maybe their uninstall program doesn't remove the icon.
In that case reinstalling wine and then uninstalling the application won't work.

    Good luck!

-=welcome=- new poster! (but long time Linux user)

sorry, i don't have a whole lot of experience with WINE (i always try to
find a Linux application to do what i need--not that you should too,
    that is just my way)..

so, i'm not sure but i guess installing WINE with YaST is pretty simple
operation, and then could use it to uninstall the application (does WINE
even do uninstalls?? hmmmmm, maybe you should wait for a WINE guru...i'm
sure not one! or maybe have a look around http://www.winehq.org/ i hear
    they know everything about WINE)

oh! when you say "i uninstalled Google Earth" are you saying you used
Dolphin or Nautilus (etc) to find and delete some icons, executables,
directories....like folks do in Windows? or did you use YaST or
something inside of WINE to actually uninstall everything??

To Edward I'm using Gnome, Login and logout didn't work when I tried it before posting. I thought I could "grab" them and pull them off the applications menu, all that did was put a link on my desktop. That of course I could move to trash.

    To Denver D.I used Yast

I'm going to re-install wine, then "uninstall" wine software, then uninstall wine and will let you know.
    Thanks

Reinstalling Wine isn't necessary; Wine's uninstaller just runs the application's own uninstaller (if it has one), and as on Windows, things often get left behind anyway. Follow the instructions in the WineHQ FAQ to remove everything.

Just re-installed wine uninstalled wine software, uninstalled wine, the icons are still there. I took a screenshot and tried to upload, but the page is unresponsive.

I'm afraid I don't know how to remove an icon under gnome, if uninstalling through YaST left it.

If you want to place images in your post I recommend you upload them to SUSE paste or ImageBam.
When you post select Image and select "From URL" and enter the URL of your freshly uploaded image.

    Best of luck!
