Thread: Well, Here I Am Again With Another Pathetic Application Problem - Choqok

Well, I got sick to DEATH of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck screwing up constantly, and then Adobe announces there will be no more Adobe AIR for Linux. Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else.

So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4).

    Except the POS doesn't work.

To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing.

I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal.

As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it.

Anyone know how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?

It's not very motivating to help someone who is screaming all the time. Calm down and try again.

Starting Choqok via command line might help (error messages etc.) - I don't know, I never used Twitter. But I have read in some articles that Choqok not only does work well, but is also considered to be the best Twitter-client for Linux by some users.

Starting from the command line might or might not be useful. The program itself runs. What it does not seem able to do is load Firefox in order to connect with Twitter and get a pin number from Twitter to authenticate Choqok to access my Twitter account.

Since KPackageKit has seen fit to reinstall Choqok all on its own after I uninstalled it, I'll try the command line now and see if it says anything useful.

And I'm in a rage because I've had nothing but problems all day with crappy software. First for some reason I can't connect to Bruce Schneier's security blog consistently and can hardly post there at all. Every other Web site works fine. Then Twitter and Adobe AIR blew up which is why I went looking for a new Twitter client.

And now while installing Qwit, PackageKit decided to reinstall openJDK even though I have marked it Taboo - Never Install!

Nothing seems to be working correctly these days. Linux is becoming as bug ridden as Windows...and I bloody HATE Windows!

OK, just tried it from the command line - and no, it shows me nothing related to why Firefox isn't being run to connect to Twitter. Firefox is already open, all it needs to do is connect.

These are the only messages on the command line:

    Choqok 1.1
    choqok(11170) Choqok:luginManager::loadPluginInternal: Unable to find a plugin named ' "none" '!
    rhack@spectrum2:~> Enchant dict for "en_US" 0x885030

    Not useful at all...

Oh, great...Just installed Qwit. Had a nice simple way of entering my Twitter account info.

Then it sits there and does nothing...

Wonderful software...More and more I have concluded that literally everyone in the software industry is a complete and total moron...

Now Qwit just crashed after I changed some settings... Brilliant work there...

You obviously misunderstand this subforum. It's not chitchat here. Maybe someone else is willing to help you, I personally do not wish to search for valid information in a pile of rants.

    Good luck.

Oh, pardon me for sullying your fine evening with my problems. Since you're obviously useless at solving problems, I guess it's just too **** hard to bother.

Meanwhile, I've installed Turpial - and it seems to work.

So to hell with Qwit (which should be renamed Twit since it's made by one) and Choqok which is some Iranian garbage. Hopefully Turpial will stay stable for five minutes and be usable.

I REALLY don't want to fire up Windows XP or 7 in VirtualBox just to find a Twitter client that functions.

You should stop using computer system at all, it seems to be bad for your heart (and character).

There is no need to attack me. Think about it.

I don't use twitter and know nothing about it, but this thread prompted my curiousity, so I did a very brief Google search and that was the 4th result.

Don't have any problems with tweetdeck... my main twitter app. I run it as a plugin in Google Chrome. Just tried Choqok.... runs nicely. It took me a minute to authenticate..... actually less than a minute. But then again, I'm using Google Chrome. PEBKAC.
