Thread: Software manager can't refresh repositories

  1. #1

Default Software manager can't refresh repositories

The last 5 days or so ,when I start software manager or zypper to update/install/remove something it can't refresh the repositories. Is something wrong with the repos? or it's just my problem?

    I'm using openSUSE 11.4 KDE 64 bit

Could you open up a terminal session and run the following commands and post here what they say. Don't forget to place any text you post inside of a code # field using the advanced message editor.

    Code:
    zypper repos

    LC_ALL=C zypper ve

Well I love to hear when problems fix themselves. It appears though that something was wrong with the "http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.4/" repository, but I do not know what it might have been for you.

seems James went to bed...in case you are still around waiting for an
    answer:

i was just able to access and refresh packman and update, so it could be
that the 'mirror brain' at software.opensuse.org was directing you to a
server which was temporally having problems....i'd suggest you just try
    again..

if it is still happening, tell us (while waiting for James--as i can't
help with that "LC_ALL=C zypper ve" because i don't know where he is
going with that) about your network connection....like:

    1. are you behind a proxy?
    2. using a wireless you don't control?
    3. hooked into a LAN you don't own (say in a dorm, apartment building,
    office network, etc)?

if any of those answers are yes:

    4. what changed in "The last 5 days or so"?

    5. and, what have you changed in your system in "The last 5 days or
so"..especially interesting would be any changes you made to your
networking settings or updates applied which might change networking or
    YaST/zypper settings..

by the way, if i were you the first thing i would do is read the
paragraph beginning with "IMPORTANT" here: http://tinyurl.com/33qc9vu

    and, then i would disable your repos numbered: 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6..
    sorry i don't know what to do about 8, 9, 10, and 11 because i only use
one packman...the ones you have _may_ contain stuff i don't want or use,
so study up and decide if maybe one or more of those are your problem..

    6. by the way you wrote: "software manager or zypper ... can't refresh
the repositories." and i wonder exactly what error you received, could
    you show us that, please?

    Code:
    Command: LC_ALL=C zypper ve

    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...

Dependencies of all installed packages are satisfied.

    Press <enter> to continue...
The above command just checks for any package dependency errors and is one of the tests in bash script mmcheck.

Well, I opened soft. manager again today and i get this message
    http://www.imagehosting.gr/di-TDLY.png

I tried "LC_ALL=C zypper ve" again and...

    Code:
    ntasos@linux-3nff:~> LC_ALL=C zypper ve
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...

The following NEW packages are going to be installed:
      libbonoboui libgnomeui libpanel-applet-2-0 python-bonobo python-orbit

    5 new packages to install.
Overall download size: 659.0 KiB. After the operation, additional 2.3 MiB will be used.
Some of the dependencies of installed packages are broken. In order to fix these dependencies, the following actions need to be taken:
Root privileges are required to fix broken package dependencies.
I run it again as root and it seems it has fixed the dependencies.
I don't know if it was my fault somehow but I'm usually careful with repositories or at least never had any problem.
As far as i remember i didn't make any changes to network settings or any weird updates.

For now everything seems to work...

that is because you seem to have the CD/DVD listed as a source
repo...which is kinda strange since i don't see it listed in your post
    #3 above...did you add it?

the rest of your note i can't make an input to..
