    Default New guy here.

Hey guys and gals. New openSuse user here.
Been using Linux for just over a year now. Started with Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS and Debian.

Been using it a few days now, and haven't borked anything yet.
Installed without a glitch, and most everything configured by itself.
The only thing I had to Google for is how to use Yast, and how to enable the repos, but that was pretty simple enough.

I installed the live DVD 11.4 with KDE 4.6.
It is also a great looking distro, and like I said everything is running smooth so far.
Hope to be using it for a long time to come, and looking forward to learning more, and getting to know some of you folks.

    Best regards, Pete.

**welcome**, happy to meet another willing to look up existing info!!

one word of friendly caution: this is a pretty fast moving train and
google _will_ turn up GREAT YaST answers for SuSE 8.2, openSUSE 10.1,
SLED 11 and others--and none of those may be useful for your openSUSE 11.4.

additionally, if you search outside of the openSUSE community you are
taking the chance of finding just plain wrong info (not to say there is
none of that here....there is, beware not are answers here come from
folks who know)..anyway, my free advice is when seeking answers for
openSUSE use a site specifier in google, like:

    for forum searches site:forums.opensuse.org
    for doc searches site:doc.opensuse.org
    for wiki searches site:en.opensuse.org
    domaine wide searches sitepensuse.org

for example, have a look at the YaST documentation with
    site:doc.opensuse.org yast

or, as discussed in the wiki with
    site:en.opensuse.org yast

i almost always use YaST, but lots of those 'raised' in Debian tribes
like zypper better...so, you might have a look at that for software
management--YaST is a LOT more than just apt or yum.

    again, welcome

    Hi, Pete.

    Welcome.

I am pretty new here, but not new to Linux or openSUSE.

I've been running Linux since October 2009. I had used Ubuntu. However, I dislike the Unity desktop.

I used openSUSE 11.2 in a Linux course at my college. As a result, I ended up ditching Ubuntu and switching to openSUSE 11.4. So far, so good for me also.
