Thread: OpenSuSE and HP 90Watt docking station

Default OpenSuSE and HP 90Watt docking station

I have finally decided to slowly migrate to running linux on my work machine.
It is a hp ProBook 6555b with the ati chipset. 4250 graphics and 2.5ghz processor

So far it has detected everything perfectly. I did install the amd catalyst drivers instead of the generic drivers. My only issue is the docking station. I have the hp 90 watt docking station. I am using two monitors one plugged into the DVI port on the docking station and One plugged into the vga port.

the catalyst control center only sees the notebook screen and one external monitor but not the other.
i tried to configure this with the configure desktop module in opensuse and no combination gave me any results.

Anyone have a idea of how to make this work. I can put up with it for a while, but really like to have the extra monitor. usually have multiple RDP sessions to multiple servers and the extra screen real estate really helps

I would ask if you have ever used two external monitors before with this setup? It does not seem abnormal to have only support for one external monitor and to have the second going to the internal LCD display, permanently. Of course if you can make this work with Windows, it might work somehow with Linux. I have found you can connect your unrecognized monitors to openSUSE after it has loaded and do a Ctrl-Alt-F1 (To switch to a Terminal Session) and then a Ctrl-Alt-F7 (To switch back to Graphics Modes) and have new monitors detected. It is worth a try, but not sure of the final outcome here.
