Chaning MIME/application association for Firefox in KDE

How can I change the MIME/application associations in KDE so that Firefox and other GTK apps see these settings. Right now in Firefox, PDFs open in GIMP and directories in easytag.

FFox > Edit > Prefs > applications

In the search field type: pdf

In the section that appears there is a drop box allowing you to select apps

I am seeing firefox open PDFs in okular . That was true with opensuse 11.3, and remains true with 11.4

I installed GIMP and hence the associations changed.

Gimp is installed by default in openSUSE

Open “Personal Settings” in the application launcher. Click on “File Associations”. Select “application” (should be near the top). That will open a list. Look for “pdf” on that list, and click it. When I do that, I see “Okular, GIMP, ePDFViewer, Evince” listed - one per line. There are buttons to add, delete, move-up, move-down.

I’m pretty sure that firefox will honor those, though a change made in firefox settings probably overrides what you set here.

That’s the problem. I do not see okular there.

In the FFox settings
Go to use other
then select the application or type it in the box: okular

I am using Firefox from Mozilla’s website, so its more tied to GTK. I know that somewhere from the configuration it reads the file associations as used GTK and displays the default options.

P.S. I added okular by inputting the path /usr/bin/okular in the “open with” option of download dialog, but I find it a very crude way of doing things.

Like using Firefox from another source, when it’s in the repos?
But the solution works --yes?

Yes but not elegant. Consider this:

It detects KTorrent while its not listed in the image here

Now from where does Firefox gets this info?

If you test a new .mozilla
How does it behave?
