  1. #1

Default Help,This is frustrating. What problem is this?

This is my first linux experience and am extremely brand new to the world of penguins

Here is the list of things i did:

    1)Install suse 11.4 gnome.
    2)Disabled nomodeset,blacklisted noveau
    3)Added nvidia repository.
4)Updated system using yast.It installed some packages including adoble, flash, nvidia drivers etc.
    5)Rebooted
6)System does not display gnome screen,it shows the termial like screen displaying login name.
    7)Entered login name and password
8)Typed startx and got the following errors

xauth: file /home/ankit/.serverauth.1111 does not exist

    Fatal server error:
Cannot move old log file "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" to "/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old"

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
    at X.Org Wiki - Home
    for help.

    xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
    xinit: server error
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
xinit failed. /usr/bin/Xorg is not setuid, maybe that's the reason?
If so either use a display manager (strongly recommended) or adjust /etc/permissions.local
I have read several thread regarding nvidia but my problem is unique

    Please help ASAP

You may be frustrated, but not mentioning in your title what your frustration is about does not help to draw the attention of people that could help you if they knew what sort of problem you have. (As it is now they might think it is a psychiatric problem )

No, it's not. Login as user root and type:

    Code:
    chmod +s /usr/bin/Xorg
and then you should be able to execute startx as a normal user.

Enabling all end-users to start X might by-pass his problem, but I doubt if his real problem is solved with this.

    Note:don't take this as rude

Yes i am mad and i will have that problem if i continue further.I am feeling stupid now on how i removed windows7 that worked charm in order to try "ultra-advanced" Linux Operating systems and wasted my valuable "30th may 2011" Started at 08:00 am in morning and its now evening 7:00pm :/ , formatting my hard disk 4times,going through several threads, googling several times and now after getting the taste of linux(an OS made for wasting time) i am moving back to windows. Is there any way i can convert the ext4 partition to ntfs?(i want my home partition to be as ntfs ) Or i need to format it (another waste of time). If no then thanks for all help.Goodbye

It is necessary to solve the startx problem first in order to find the next
    problem.
