Unhappy Ubuntu 11.04 detects no Hardware under openSUSE 11.4, XEN HV

Trying to setup Ubuntu 11.04 as Xen domU with hardware virtualization fails. Ubuntu detects neither network nor disk adapter.
Installation of a 64-bit Windows 7 sytem in the same environment showed no problems.

Xen server is setup from standard openSUSE 11.4 repositories.

    addendum:
When using xen 4.1.0 from repository Index of /repositories/Virtualization/openSUSE_11.4 the error changes to:

(initramfs) unable to find a medium containing a live file system
now trying in text mode ...

let me see if i understand this: you want to run Ubuntu in a Xen VM
    running in openSUSE 11.4, right?

why? nevermind the answer, give VBox a try, it is a piece of cake, i
found Xen too hard, and so have many others..

here, try to do it the other way, run Xen in Ubuntu and see if openSUSE
can "find a medium containing a live file system"....i expect you will
then think the problem might be Xen, rather than openSUSE..

of course, i could be wrong...have been before.

Yes! It's easy to setup a Xen-server right from the beginning with openSUSE. That is >not< possible with Ubuntu (see below)

I know. But using VBox has not the possibility i.e. to passthrough PCI-devices

here, try to do it the other way, run Xen in Ubuntu and see if openSUSE
can "find a medium containing a live file system"....i expect you will

Yes! It definitely IS a problem of the specific configuration of the Xen VM. Unexplainable to me is that a can easily setup a VM with different Win's which all rely on full hardware virtualization. Non of them complains.
    Thus: Where is the difference?

are you asking me/us to explain the difference between the two operating
systems which allows Win7 to not complain but openSUSE refuses to play??

that is something i can do easily: they are completely different
systems--like one _welcomes_ into its heart a whole host of harmful
things, and the other does not..

*or* are you asking me/us why Xen works one way on one operating system
and a different way on another?

and, that must be a great question to ask a Xen experts....but, i doubt
if any hang out around here--you *are* very welcome to hang out and see
if the next passing potential helper knows how to help you better than i
can (remember, i gave up on Xen and VMWare...just too hard for _me_)..

maybe try xen.org/[something] while waiting for an openSUSE user who has
had smiles with Xen to happen along..

    As there:

    • is complete XEN support integrated into openSUSE 11.x *and*
    • are special repositories under /download.opensuse.org/... covering XEN

I am looking *here* ... and not under xen.org for somebody who works at the interface between XEN and openSUSE.

I am definitely *not* looking for someone to explain me differences between Windows and Linux. Having an running XEN / openSUSE server with Samba4 etc. I know at least a little bit of these topics ;-)

oh! i misunderstood...sorry, i thought you were looking for help..

this is not where "somebody who works at the interface between XEN and
openSUSE" hangs out...we are a support forum of enthusiasts and
volunteers ... users helping users ... we are not a packaging nor a
    development forum.

If one wishes to reach the packagers or developers of openSUSE then the
place(s) to do so are clearly marked in the Communications channel wiki
    for openSUSE <http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Communication_channels>
where the places are the mailing list, and the IRC freenode chat
channels such as #opensuse-factory. The openSUSE forums is not the place.

If one wishes to recommend an improvement to openSUSE, then the place to
do so is openSUSE fate <https://features.opensuse.org/>. The openSUSE
    forums is not the place.

If one wishes to report a bug, then the place to do so is at Bugzilla
<http://tinyurl.com/nzhq7j>. The openSUSE forums is not the place.

it sounds to me like you wanna know _why_ from one of the developers,
they are easily reachable, but not here..

Subscribe to the opensuse-virtual mailing list, this is the place where the
    virtualisation specialists may hang around.
