Thread: Wireless drops out

    Default Wireless drops out

Probably not the right place but here goes.
My wireless usually connects at start up, but after a while it just drops off and fails to reconnect.
Is it caused by the key ring (holds all of the passwords under one password).

Okay, does anybody have any ideas. The network adapter is a Realtek RTL8192E, the wireless is wpa2 personal encrypted (I think).

There are RTL8192CE, RTL8192SE, and RTL8192DE chips, but nothing that is called
    RTL8192E.

    Please post the output of

    /sbin/lspci -nn

so that I know what device you actually have.

The device with PCI ID of 10ec:8192 is an RTL8192SE. The driver that you are
trying to use is from the staging directory and is not well written. A much
better version will be in kernel 2.6.40. If you want to use pre-compiled
drivers, you have no alternative but to use that faulty driver; however, keep
your eye on the date of the compat-wireless package. It is currently based on
the April 29 release of the code. When that is redone with a May 15 or later
code, then you should install it and get the better driver.

Alternatively, if you are willing to build the compat-wireless drivers yourself,
then you can get the source from

    http://wireless.kernel.org/download/...-05-16.tar.bz2
