    Default Too good too bad.....

    I faced a major problem with linux and firefox recently... i had to install some digital certificate and that requires only windows and IE. Install windows 7 SP1 and IE9 with a very bad mood... and find out that my multifunction printer's drivers is now got plug and play support (driver within the windows)... having utility to aline cartridge. Firefox 4 is far better in looking, installed smplayer (with mplayer backend), avidemux, gimp and pidgin to get some linux feeling...

    overall system is running as smooth as with suse...sure I will be back to linux very soon when I get a new system till then...

    It will be better not to install Windows, all operates and functions are executed better. Anyway in my opinion this install is a waste of money and also inefficient.

    Not as is his case, he absolutely needs to do something that only is
    provided for windows.

    It'd be interesting to know what that "something" was. I've had a lot of
    programs tell me to use windows-only apps to do things with certificates
    but it has always been due to ignorance on the part of the manufacturers.
    Digital Certificates aren't rocket science so it'd be a strange
    requirement indeed to use any one OS over another for most standard
    operations (non-standard meaning "Install this certificate into windows"
    which obviously require windows).

    Good luck.

    It may be simply that the certificate is given only in the form that IE
    imports.

    Yes, which is also easily imported with various other tools (including
    ones built into Linux out of the box), though that's merely a problem of
    poor instructions from the vendor.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for all the suggestions... I have tried all the config... the site that required digital certificate is https://delhi.govtprocurement.com its simply wouldn't open if you are not using IE, I tried Midori/Konqueror (IE mode) site will open but there is no option for digital certificates....

    Oh the irony.... from their site (accessed via Firefox with the UserAgent
    Switcher add-on to work past the IE requirement):

    <quote>
    The Tender Management Software helps both the buyers and the suppliers to
    reduce the cycle time, unnecessary paper work, waiting in long queues and
    simultaneously maintain the transparency in the entire process.
    </quote>

    maintain transparency, eh? I guess I'm really fortunate to not have to
    deal with companies using incompetent administrators with JavaScript that
    checks your browser because they cannot code to the basic web standards.
    Sorry you have to work with them. Hopefully the rest of your experience
    with them involves interacting with people better tat their job than their
    so-called "webmaster".

    Good luck.
