did the guide mention, and have you installed the kernel headers (or
maybe VMware requires kernel source, i do not know) which exactly
matches the kernel you are wanting to run the VM in?

note, i don't really know what "PMB" is, do you? a really quick google
tells me it might be something to do with PhpMyBibli or something Sony
    gives away..

anyhow, the error tells me the "PMB" is not where the compiler expects
    to find it....

btw, most folks find VBox drop dead easy...ymmv

    Seems you miss some prerequisites.
    Open a terminal
    Code:
    su -
zypper in module-init-tools make tar grep
    and check again.

hmmmmmm...i missed that....since openSUSE is born with tar, echo, grep,
rmmod and insmod i *must* ask the OP when and how he installed 11.4 and
if he did this prior to install: http://tinyurl.com/2ebcf27

*what* happened to the default install linux bash guts????

has the OP gotten 'creative' with the path?
is the OP compiling as superuser?
or, logged into KDE/Gnome as root?

or, maybe ssh into a distant machine......info needed before help can flow.

additionally, are the guides "found on the internet" openSUSE specific
    and current??

does VMware not have a relevant guide which addresses use on openSUSE?

how about openSUSE, do we have any guides on installing VMware? well,
    how about:

    http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installin...or_workstation

which i learned about here (among LOTs of additional info):

Judging for martin-helm's post and DenverD's supplied guide it looks like I may be missing make and patch.

I am logging in locally as a normal user and opeing the CLI typing su then sh the bundle file it found the gcc and linux-kernel-header after I installed them.

Sadly I am now at work so I will try this later. Virtual Box is not an option as I need to have more than one instance running at a time. The only two options that I have are KVM or VMware.

Thinking again about that, I guess (!) the vmware error message is simply
misleading, it probably means that at least one of that tools is missing and
not all (and this is then most probably just make, because the rest is
    installed by default).
But this is now just speculation.

    good...few things:

    - don't run configure or make as root

    - only "make install" as root

    - to become root with full root path use "su -" instead of just su, see
    http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Login_as_root
    http://tinyurl.com/ydbwssh

if you knew that, sorry to mention it again..
