Dimb YAST> Software Managment >Upddates question.

OK when I go into Software Management > Repositories > Updates I see some packages that are in red. These are packages that are to be rolled back. When I select the check mark/ tick mark it goes to an X. Is it going to be rolled back or removed when I select like this? I haven’t been rolling back because I don’t want to screw up and bork my system and I have quite a few of these today.

Check the version tab on the bottom right. See where each available version comes from and then you can make the decision to keep or replace.

I am not so much worried about where the packages or libaries come from as I am making sure I am just rolling back and not removing the package totally. What action does that “X” represent is what I want to know. Is it a remove or roll back?

I think removed but the version info is important since you may have installed something from and one repo and added another that has a newer package.

You can select the version from the version tab.

I am not so concerned with where is comes from since I only have the standard 11.3 repos and Packman installed. I have Packman set to 90 so if it’s a pm package I have installed that is what will be rolled back/updated to otherwise just the standard openSUSE updates.

Removed is not good. Removed breaks things. How do I make it roll back instead?

Show a screenshot of such a package including the tab labelled “Versions”. However, from your description it sounds as if there were no package to roll-back to.

ETA: You are not looking at VLC packages perchance?

This is strange. When I went to grab the screen shot I noticed the red packages in YAST> Software> Management> Repositories> Updated for openSUSE 11.3 11.3-1.82 were no longer highlighted in red. I did all the updates that were on blue (packages for which updates were available) the first time through. Now when I go back in to YAST > Software Management the repos are not scanned and the red entries are not present. Did doing the updates satisfy some dependencies or do I need to force it to rescan some how? These were all most all pm multimedia packages and libs that I updated.

Look at the pseudo-repository “@System” instead.

I did a reboot and looking at the @system I picked one package that is red.

There is no other version available. Pretty much makes it a non issue.

So it’s just YAST being unhappy it seems.

Yes, that is it. (And while the package libdvdcss has Packman as vendor, it does not come from the Packman repository. It comes from the libdvdcss repository. So if you wanted to update or re-install it you would need to enable that repo again.)

I though Packman set up the repos for 11.3 so they all redirect to the correct (new) directory structure. 11.4 has different repos that have to be added? 11.3 users can function as they always have. That was the impression if got from the mail list.

Yes, I think that is correct. It is just that libdvdcss2 is not in the Packman repository structure; it is in a repo called “libdvdcss repository”. And I would wager that is where you got it from too.

ETA:

No, it should be (roughly) the same.

That particular package, libdvdcss, is not supplied by packman. It was so
for about a week or so, till they noticed and removed it again. It is
possible that you installed it from packman during that interval, and now
it shows in red (I do not see the red in your picture, tough) because
packman no longer has it.

No, notice the .pm. in the name.

I have got the package from the libdvdcss repository. It has Packman as vendor and the suffix.

No, you have it from packman.

Which is atypical, it should not be there. Actually, I did a search on the
packman site, and that library is not available, which is the correct status.

http://packman.links2linux.org/search?scope=name&q=dcss

Look carefully on your photo:

the packman version is marked
two other version from libdcss repo are available (64 and 32 bit).

You have installed the packman version from the time it was there, briefly,
for a week or two.

An upgrade is not proposed because it is the same version.

OK well I have installed the right repo for that one file and now am waiting on YAST to decide it’s OK to rescan the repos and will see if there is a new version in that repo.

I don’t need to look at the photo. I have the system. :stuck_out_tongue:

And on the versions tab …

The entry marked with a checkmark (this one: ✓ ) signifies a package which is installed on your system. In this case it is the first entry.

All entries which have this radio button in front of them (not very well visible in my screenshot) signify available versions from all configured repositories. In this case these are entries two and three. The one with the checked radio button (that dot: · ) signifies the package which would be installed, if you selected Install or Update. In this case this is the second entry.

Now, “is installed here” and “would be installed from there” can very well refer to identical packages. In fact it mostly does. Here is another example with a different package, and again three entries:

Or check it out for yourself.

When in yast software manager , click on HELP, then symbols.
It may help. Or shift + F1

I can confirm that libdvdcss was in Packman briefly and that is what has happened for some of you.

A word of caution. Currently you will likely see many RED packages in packman, particularly if you have VLC Player installed. For the time being VLC has been removed and so it and it’s dependencies will show RED in software manager
