beta kdenlive version 0.8 is looking promising
The beta version 0.8 of kdenlive is now packaged by the Packman Packagers for openSUSE. I installed it on openSUSE-11.3 on my somewhat slow Dell Studio 1537 laptop (Core 2 Duo P8400 processor with Radeon HD 3450 graphics).
Lots of new nice features.
For example, I created this small title clip, which is much easier to create with this kdenlive version than it was with the older version:

¿Beta? AFAIK 0.8 is an stable release.
The version for 11.4 is not available because of the same problem VLC has. Meanwhile you can install it from home:RedDwarf:KDE.

I confess to knowing nothing about the version numbering. But in case curious as to where I pulled this 'beta' from, it was from this KDEnlive forum thread: Version 0.8? | Kdenlive where user "sunab" (one of the developers) noted they created version 0.8 as a "pre-release" of version 0.8. I should have stated "pre-release" instead of "beta". Typically on the KDEnlive forum there is a big announcement with a new release. I missed that for version 0.8 if it was made.

I can still crash kdenlive almost at will. One quickly learns to press "save" every 30 seconds and to learn and avoid the key sequences that can cause a crash.
Still, despite my ability to easily crash the software, I really do like this software.

I received a number of PMs from Linux users looking at another of my short title clip demo's, complaining that no one ever does a video on how to create a title clip. I confess I always considered a basic title clip pretty obvious, although if one wants to scroll the text it is not quite as easy.
Here is an example of how I created something like the scrolling text above with kdenlive-0.8 (created on an openSUSE-11.3 PC):
