Thread: Can't add comunity repositories (load list)

  1. #1

Default Can't add comunity repositories (load list)

The whole thing started with an annoying amarok bug (thought it was a bug: ASF missing), in fact the Packman repository didn't exist at that point. (which contains the ASF module)

To add it I needed to load the, community repositories. The system already failed at that point and gave me following error message: "WARNING: Unable to download list of repositories, or no repositories defined"

I researched a bit on Google and it seemed to be a common problem...unfortunately nobody could offer a solution. (I guess the error occurred not to many users...)

By the way, I'm using Opensuse 11.4

    What I've done:
Yast --> Software management --> configure --> repositories --> add --> selected community repositories --> next --> ERROR: Unable to...

You know the rest. I would really appreciate it if someone established or found a solution and would share it with me.

If you need more information for a solution, please just ask.

    Thank you very much

PS: I hope I'm not bothering you with simple "newbi problems". I used K/Ubuntu for quite a bit, so I'm not used to Yast and find it at first a bit confusing. Specially this error is a real pain.

I'm getting the same using Gnome 2 and 11.4. Is it due to this? --> openSUSE News

It didn't happen to me, all repositories worked fine.

That's great, but assuming, we are using the same software(opensuse 11.4), how can this error/warning appear?
Or am I just doing something wrong? I mean you just have to add them(selecting community repositories), but the list doesn't load.

Maybe it's related to what chrispche said and later on you will be able to load them.

just tried it now, and for me at least it works fine. funny is, i never
tried this before. when i want to add repos i usually know beforehand what
i want to add, and where to find it. if not i look through
    http://download.opensuse.org or search via http://software.opensuse.org.
for those who don't know their way around very much, these repos are
    explained here http://en.opensuse.org/Package_repositories and here
    http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories . and, you can &
should always ask in these forums to make sure you chosse the correct ones.

Surprisingly it actually works now. I really don't know why?

    What I remember I did:

I had another issue with skype not launching, therefore I installed some 32 bit packages nad now it works fine...
Really weird, because I don't know if one thing has anything to do with another.

So if it might please answer or if this has any side effects (for example suddenly running mostly a 32 bit system though I actually installed 64 bit)

However, it would be great if someone could explain it to me, so that I know, what I'm doing.

By the way, what repositories should I install?

I'm sorry, but I've got another problem now....
I'm pretty sure, that not all sections of the community repositories show up. There are only 28 repositories, I can choose after selecting community repositories.

Is that right? Or are there really just 28? (I aearched for it on google, but I couldn't find anything more detailed)

    thanks for your time
