If you need a java inside wine for a windows program you need to install the
    windows java version with wine.

Download the offline installer for java from java.com
    http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/downlo...BundleId=47363
you will get the file jre-6u24-windows-i586-s.exe
change to the folder where the file is and run
    Code:
    wine jre-6u24-windows-i586-s.exe
after it has finished check if the windows version of java inside wine works
    Code:
    java version "1.6.0_24"
    this should be the output
    Code:
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)
now you should be able to run your windows diabetes program in wine

If you run into an additional problem just report back, some programs are
    simply not compatible with wine.
I hope the reason for what I posted is clear to you. A windows program
running in wine simply cannot see a linux java which is installed in your
main operating system, it needs its own windows java.

Happy easter to you as well.

    good morning Martin;
I think I have everything in the /home/larry/.wine folder
it did compile the java program there. then glucofacts also did compile and no errors appeared so it did find the correct java. then it put a icon on the desktop for Glucofacts.
when I click on this it seems to try to start the program. I get a window c:/windows/system32/cmd.exe and it is blank. I think I am missing a link to start the program?
when ever I did anything in a terminal I did not us SU
hope this gives you any suggestions for me.

    Hi Larry,

I do not know that special program. So we have to investigate a bit. Look in
your wine folder where you find the exe file which acts as a starter for the
program. If you can find it try to start it in a terminal with
    Code:
    wine <path-to-the-exe>
and watch the terminal output, it may give us a clue.

You say "it did compile the java program there", is this open source? Can
you give me a poiter where to find it? I can then look at it and check.
If it is pure java I guess I can tell you how to make it work with linux
natively (except if it uses some fancy JNI stuff which is most probably the
case if this is a software which communicates with some devices).

Martin in response to the first part of your reply
I used a terminal and finally got down to the above.
the exe program is in the top line Program Files

not sure how to type the Drive C as it contains the folder Program Files.

in the folder Program Files (x86) is where Java is. will work on that after learning how to
code that wine <path to the GlucoFacts Deluxe v2.8.exe>
thank you for all the learning this morning.
