Dear all,
I would like to ask you if there is anything similar that microsoft project that can help me organize a demanding task? I have different colleagues running different tasks and I want to be able to track major and minor details.
What do you have in mind?

For Gnome there is planner.
There are several, but whether any one meets your needs depends on what those needs are.
From what I remember of the appalling MS project (ok, that’s actually a bit unfair…in some ways it is a reasonable app, with a few appalling aspects, and which, in later versions encourages you to work in ways that make your project more likely to fail), it is ‘well integrated’ with MS’s own mail system, although I’m not fully conversant with developments in the latest version.
Now, if you just want to do planning with Gantt charts, distribute those and have others be able to read them and maybe comment upon them, there are probably several apps that would satisfy your needs.
On the other hand, if you can’t possibly settle for a single feature-ette less than is available in the latest version of MS Project, you are probably going to have a harder time. (Although anything might get printing better than the wonderful MS did in some versions, where Project really didn’t work conveniently with any MS operating system, if you used a different default paper size and printer for printing plans that for your day-to-day printing.)

Unfortunately was unable to find planner for Gnome as could not find any repository for that.
I would like to have one application for that.

I believe it is installed by defaultwith the desktop. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall removing it, and just installed it again from YaST after doing a search for planner. Should be in the Office category of More Applications in the menu. YMMV.
You are right for 11.4 Gnome. Funny, I was looking at it earlier. On a very quick look, it seemed basic compared to MS Project (IIRC that is their main offering).
Taskjuggler used to be available in the distro (not now), but search the OBS. That is more of an industrial strength app for project management, and I think it is still offered with Novell’s commercial enterprise product (SLED).

Write now I am trying out openproj. Could you please tell me if it is possible to put reminders? A task might be lasting for months. How is it possible to have some reminders about facts and things you might need during the task’s duration?

Another good project management software is Latitude. It’s an application that you will have to install in your desktop, This runs faster and has more functionality than the web-based. Users can be notified by the tasks or schedules they have.
Other features include CRM, document control, quoting and invoicing job costs, generate gannt chart reports of timesheets, projects, etc.
