Upgrade 11.1 to 11.3 - Burn ISO DVD file to multiple CDROMs - Is It Possible

How can I burn the openSUSE 11.3 ISO DVD file to multiple CDROMs to upgrade a legacy notebook (Sony Vaio PCG-FXA32) running 11.1 that has only a CDROM drive? I have the 11.3 ISO on a DVD disk.

Thank You

Upgrade over the LAN or Internet. Or borrow an external DVD drive.

Use one of the live CDs and fetch the rest of software you need with yast
online.

Not possible.

I booted from the Live KDE 11.3 and 11.4 CDs which both ran well. I will research the forum concerning any issues with upgrading 11.1 to 11.4. If all goes well, I will install version 11.4 online via YaST after backing up data to another drive and also making a new image with Clonezilla of the notebooks hard drive. Thank you to all for your help.

You do know that an upgrade from 11.1 to 11.4 is not recommended? You are going to run into many hard to solve problems. It is better to do a fresh install and simply not format your home partition.

That is not completely correct.

A “zypper dup” jump of more than 1 version is not supported, although it
may work, and many people report it worked for them for a jump of two or
three versions.

An upgrade via DVD boot from a current, old, version to another current
version is supported; for example, from 11.2 to 11.4 is supported
officially. From 11.1 no, because 11.1 is out of maintenance. It could have
to be split on two upgrades.

And yes, upgrades do have problems, but so do new installs. They are simply
different problems and less known. Some targets have more problems than
others: 11.3 and 11.4 have problematic video (large change).

But the OP does not have a DVD reader, and the CD does not offer upgrade,
so the only possible upgrade method is “zypper dup”. If that is the
intention, I would do a full backup (or an image backup) and then try it in
one daring step. Why not? >:-)

I have used the Live CDs and graphical/HMI YaST for upgrades and updates. I have never used the command line Zypper. I should attempt learning Zypper by upgrading to 11.2 first with zypper dup (distribution upgrade) to lessen the occurrence of problems that were mentioned. I have downloaded the Zypper docs. Do you have advice on using Zypper, zypper dup? Would I be able to obtain current 11.1 maintenance via the Evergreen Project’s URLs? I have the URLs installed in YaST and in text. I will make a fresh 11.1 backup and image to a USB HDD before any attempt.
