Thread: Cannot install wireless drivers, no make command

Default Cannot install wireless drivers, no make command

    Hi there,

I've installed openSUSE today in order to use some software for some research. I chose openSUSE because apparently it had good support for wireless communications and extra monitors etc. However I cannot install the drivers for my modem as "make" is not a recognised command... Now after a bit of research I realise that I need some sort of C compiler to allow for this? (I installed from a CD download)

Would anybody be able to link me to a package which I could easily install so that I can use the make command? I still have a windows partition so that's what I'm using for the internet.

    Thankyou

PS. My laptop is a Toshiba F60

you may, or may not actually have to compile the driver yourself...i'd
suggest you begin in the wireless forum, by reading the three stickies
at the top of that forum:

    http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...here/wireless/

if you find there that you in fact must compile, then i think (hope)
there are instructions included on the steps to take using either YaST
or zypper to install the suite of software needed to compile...oh, here
    it is http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Compiling_software

You should have a little icon on your toolbar for YaST2. Click on the YaST2 icon, supply your root password and select software management. The you can select and install the "make" package. IMHO, you should have used the DVD instead of the CD then I think "make" would have been installed.

makes sense, but i don't think it is included in any default openSUSE
    install, today...used to be..

Yes, seemed to have always been available. For my 11.4 clean I installed programming packages and IIRC I think I did need to select "make".
