Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Hi, I've installed Opensuse 11.4 without problems, but when I uninstall some KDE apps, like kopete, choqok, kmail and many others, a few days later, the apps appears installed again. I've uninstalled the apps agains, but, they appear again and again. When I update the system with yast, zypper or kpackage, never appear the KDE apps, but for some reason, the system reinstall these apps. The packages are all that comes with the default install, here's the list:
Choqoq, Kopete, Konversation, Krdc, Krfb, Kruler, Korganizer, Kaddressbook, Kmail, Kontact, Libreoffice Base and deps.
There's no change with the package that I've installed post installation, like Skype, Pidgin, Thunderbird and many others.
Can someone help me with this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Bruno.

Are you using kde?
If so, trying to remove all those is asking for trouble

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Hi, I'm using KDE, and when i've finished the install of OS 11.4 (1 month ago), I've uninstalled all those applications, but later, the apps appears again. I remove it again, but after a few days or weeks, the same thing.
I never reinstalled those apps, and when update or install new apps, I look all the changes (automatic and manual). I don't understand what is going on. It's the first time that i've a problem like this.
There isn't a dep problem, I ever look at the change's windows before commit the selected packages.

Don't you even notice them getting dragged back in
I struggle to understand why you even want to do this, unless you are particularly low on HD space, otherwise it seems pointless.

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Usually I uninstall all the apps that I don't use. There's no problem with the disk usage but I think why the system drag me back with these apps, without authorization. I've using Opensuse in my laptop since 11.2, and I never have a problem like this (ever I uninstall all the apps thay i don't use).

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Maybe this is due to some pattern(s) that drag back in the applications.

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Some programs/packages are simply "recommended" by others, but are not a
real dependency. It simply might be that those you mentioned are recommended
by something (can as well be a meta package, a pattern) and you did not
really notice that they were installed again.
If you really (whatever reason you have) want to avoid that this is
reinstalled add a lock for the package.
Code:
zypper al <pkg-name>
as root, for example

9600 GT | 4GB Ram
Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.6.0 | nVidia
ION | 3GB Ram

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Yes, adding a lock it's a solution, I know that, but I've asked because in other versions I don't have these problems. I think, after all, that the patterns can be the problem. The first time, I've upgraded Opensuse-11.4 pattern, but later I don't know whick package reinstall the apps. I will try again testing with the patterns, or directly locking the apps!
Thanks at all for your replies.
Best regards!
Bruno.
PD: sorry for my english.

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
If you check this when deleting a package
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10573557/Sof...ove_depend.png
Is that too aggressive? Like does it take away too much of kde?
It should give you an idea of how everything is interrelated.
Were you using kde4 in 11.2?

Re: Problems with certain KDE Apps (auto reinstall)
Hi caf, I've upgraded first from 11.2 to 11.3 and then to 11.4 (reinstalling the complete system, not from zypper dist-upgrade). The check box thet you mentioned it's not enabled, but now I'll be enable. In the other versions, I haven't enabled the checkbox, but maybe it's the solution.
In OS 11.2 I've used KDE4.
Thanks for your reply and help.
Best rgds.
Bruno.
