Notification new reply when posting

Hello all,

Sometimes when I post a reply on a topic I notice that in the time I was writing my reply someone else answered the question or gave the same advice as I would have.
Most of the time I click "Preview Post" before replying to make sure nobody posted the same as I'm going to post.

Although this works good enough I think it would be better to add some sort of warning/notification system.
I saw this on some other forum, when someone posted before you you'll see a warning screen where you can read the post and choose to either continue posting or edit your post.

I would like to hear what others think about it.

Hi,

I came to this problem before I knew there was nntp access to the forum. This type of access create this kind o f situation it seems. You'll get used to it.

But this post won't turn up for another ~20 minutes, but the time stamp
will be now since it's from the nntp side. So if there is a web post in
say 5 minutes, then this post will be placed between it...

I will post on the nntp side to see if this is true...

But this feature could be useful when someone posted through the web interface while you're still typing your reply.

I just sent a reply from the nntp side timed at 09:49 CDT so in theory it should become post #3 in this thread.

two posts with one good and one bad answer will give the questioner
reason to pause and think..

two posts with two correct but different answers are just fine, but that
will probably also cause the questioner to _think_, which is a good idea..

two posts with the same wrong answer--THAT is a problem..

so, in my mind the situation you describe is no problem that needs fixing..

If you know of a plugin to accomplish this with vBulletin, by all means
let us know, and we can look into it.

On the nntp side your post is stamped at 9:49 CDT. However, on the web side
the time stamp is 8:49. Go figure.
