Sometimes when I post a reply on a topic I notice that in the time I was writing my reply someone else answered the question or gave the same advice as I would have.
Most of the time I click “Preview Post” before replying to make sure nobody posted the same as I’m going to post.
Although this works good enough I think it would be better to add some sort of warning/notification system.
I saw this on some other forum, when someone posted before you you’ll see a warning screen where you can read the post and choose to either continue posting or edit your post.
I came to this problem before I knew there was nntp access to the forum. This type of access create this kind o f situation it seems. You’ll get used to it.
I know about the nntp posts which appear later in the web interface.
But this feature could be useful when someone posted through the web interface while you’re still typing your reply.

Hi
But this post won’t turn up for another ~20 minutes, but the time stamp
will be now since it’s from the nntp side. So if there is a web post in
say 5 minutes, then this post will be placed between it…
I will post on the nntp side to see if this is true…

two posts with one good and one bad answer will give the questioner
reason to pause and think…
two posts with two correct but different answers are just fine, but that
will probably also cause the questioner to think, which is a good idea…
two posts with the same wrong answer–THAT is a problem…
so, in my mind the situation you describe is no problem that needs fixing…

If you know of a plugin to accomplish this with vBulletin, by all means
let us know, and we can look into it.
Hi, this requires a device called a Time Machine to travel into the future and see if somebody’s post will be more or less the same as yours, then you can go back and forget about posting, or not.
I’m working on building such a machine, unfortunately it requires technology that does not exist yet, so I’m trying to figure out a way to bootstrap the process by somehow foreseeing the future.
Seriously, why worry about it? If you find that you are often more or less saying what others say, then move on to more fertile pastures. It’s for this reason that I’ve stopped looking at run-of-the-mill questions and only look for interesting ones as there is quite a lot of talent on this forum now. Hopefully someday I won’t have to post anything, i.e. I will be redundant, and I can just sit back and read the hilarious posts. lol!

It is very easy: just assume you invent it, some time in the future.
You just need to go back and tell yourself.
Problem solved.
