Microphone config with onboard sound

Hi. I have the MCP55 HD Audio on board. Is there a way to configure the mic to mono, 16 bit with 16000Hz sampling as a system input. The signal will be read by the installed program pocketsphinx_continuous.

This is not to make recordings. I can make these settings in KRecord/KDE3. This is for the system input. The mic works with the program and KRecord.

Or must a compatible sound card be installed?

This is a very specific question, and appears more relevant to the behaviour of alsa as designed upstream. If you get no answer on our forum you may wish to try joining the alsa mailing list (where the alsa developers hang out) and ask your question there. There is information on the mailing lists here: Mailing-lists - AlsaProject and I think the mailing list to join is the one called “alsa-user”.

Thanks. I applied on alsa.

My application I believe has a way to link to an existing mixer. This would solve the problem, if I can do it.
