Default Wireless does not turn on until nic cable is plugged in

Wireless does not turn on until nic cable is plugged in. Soon as I plug in a nic cable the wireless light on laptop comes on. Can anyone help to alleviate this issue please.

What does connecting a network cable to my laptop have to do with my wireless then turning on?

Are you using NetworkManager, or "ifup".

If you are using "ifup", then how is the device configured?

I see options for: "Boot Time", "Cable Connection", "Hot Plug", "Manually", "Never", "NFS Root".

Is it possible that you have it set for "Cable Connection" (which would not be appropriate for wireless).

I have not used ifup. I have been using Network manager. I have not found an option where I can set the connection type.

    In a terminal try
    Code:
    ifconfig wlan0 up
without a cable plugged in and see if NetworkManager does anything.
I recommend you use the plasmoid instead of NetworkManager.
    Also, the output of
    Code:
    lspci
    would be helpful.
