Firefox not starting

My 11.4 installation has been doing well fora couple of weeks. Today firefox won’t start - I just get the bouncy ball thingy and then it stops and doesn’t launch. Firefox is set as default.
Yesterday there was a whole bunch of updates (and again today) but it was after yesterdays updates that things went wrong. My browser was open all the time - and only when it was closed, and I tried to re-open it that I found that there was a problem. In terminal, this is what I get:

Alastairo@linux-742t:~> firefox
*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to enable).
** (<unknown>:16422): DEBUG: NP_Initialize

** (<unknown>:16428): DEBUG: NP_Initialize succeeded
/usr/lib64/firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libvlcplugin.so: undefined symbol: NPP_Initialize

Fixed by renaming .mozilla to .mozillaold and then restarted firefox. Had to redo bookmarks, addons and passwords
